Puerto Galera
PHILIPPINES · ORIENTAL MINDORO
Beaches, boat trips and an easy island escape from Manila
Puerto Galera combines straightforward island travel with beaches, boat trips and relaxed evenings by the water. We stayed near White Beach and used it as a practical base for swimming, local restaurants and activities along the coast.
Plan your Puerto Galera trip
Start with the three decisions that shape most stays: how you will travel from Manila, which beach area suits you and how much time you want for boat trips or quieter days.
Getting there
Plan the journey in three stages: bus to Batangas, ferry to Puerto Galera and a local transfer to your accommodation.
Where to stay
Choose White Beach for restaurants and evening activity, or a quieter coastal area if a secluded stay is your priority.
Getting around
Local transfers, tricycles and organised boat trips cover many common routes. Confirm the price and meeting point before setting off.
How to get to Puerto Galera from Manila
We travelled from Manila via Batangas. These were the main stages of our journey:
- Start at Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and choose a bus that arrives at Batangas Port or Pier; some search results end at Batangas City Grand Terminal.
- Continue by ferry to Puerto Galera and check which arrival point is used for your sailing.
- Arrange the final local transfer to White Beach or your chosen accommodation.
Ferry routes, terminals and departure times can change. Reconfirm the current connection before travelling and avoid planning a tight same-day transfer.
Why White Beach works as a base
We liked having the beach, restaurants and local activities close together. White Beach made everyday planning easy, but it is a lively base rather than a secluded retreat, particularly in the evening.
Things we enjoyed in Puerto Galera

WHITE BEACH EVENING
White Beach after dark
The beachfront becomes lively in the evening, and the fire shows are an easy experience to include without organising a separate excursion.

RELAXED BEACH DAY
Outlook Restaurant
We spent time at Outlook Restaurant at Alplayang Munti, combining food with swimming and a relaxed day away from the busier beachfront.

BOAT TRIP
Snorkelling by boat
We took a half-day boat and snorkelling trip, with Medio Island as our main stop. Along the way, we stopped at coral reefs and visited a spot known as the Underwater Cave. During part of the trip, we held on to the boat as it moved through the water, looking at the corals below.
We no longer have the operator’s details, but the owner of Outlook Restaurant at Alplayang Munti helped arrange local tours when we visited. You can ask there about available boat trips and what they include.

- Confirm what a boat excursion includes before paying.
- Leave a buffer between your ferry and any onward flight or fixed connection.
Is Puerto Galera worth adding to your route?
For us, yes: Puerto Galera provided a welcome beach stop after Manila. Staying near White Beach gave us a lively base, while the snorkelling trip and our day at Alplayang Munti added a quieter side to the stay.
